Osteopathy and Pregnancy

Pregnancy should be a joyous time, as you create a new life within your body. Yet for some women, the physical changes required to accommodate their baby can lead to a certain degree of discomfort. Osteopathy can help to ease these aches and pains of pregnancy using simple and safe manipulation and massage techniques.

 

When you become pregnant, your body undergoes a wide range of changes to prepare you for your growing baby and the birth. Hormonal changes make your ligaments relax, which can cause aches and pains in the joints. These joint changes, along with the weight of the baby, cause you to adapt and compensate elsewhere in your body, such as the lower back, and can lead to muscle tension, pain and discomfort. Osteopathy can help to relieve the stresses and strains on your body during pregnancy, so that you are better able to cope with these changes.

 

 

Osteopathy after birth

Following the birth of your baby, your body has to adapt once again.

Gradual changes that have occurred over nine months are reversed in a

much shorter period of time, and this can again cause problems within

the joints. What’s more, new mothers are faced with a range of tasks,

such as bending, lifting the baby and breastfeeding, which can lead to

new muscular and postural problems. Osteopathy can work with your

body to help you to recover from childbirth and re-establish balance in

your body.
